Hardware

CD or Solid-State, have you got the piece of kit to play your message?

There's no need to worry if you haven't got, or don't know if you've got, playback hardware attached to your telephone system - we can help you find a solution.

To check if your phone system can easily accept an audio device, look for your KSU (key service unit - or big grey box on the wall). You may be able to identify the Music On Hold port by carefully checking for an input jack socket (like those for small headphones) marked "music", "external music" or "MOH".

What we can provide

These days looped Music On Hold messages are mostly loaded onto 'solid-state' (memory card) or CD players. Up until recently it's been quite hard to choose between these two formats - do you go for the economy of a CD player or durability of a Solid-State player? We can provide CD players but have now found that Solid-State players can be just as economical, as well as superbly hard working (no moving parts to wear out). For example, the DP401.

How it works

Slot in your message on provided SD memory card...

Use included wires to plug unit into the main unit of your phone system...

Press play on the solid-state unit, and then...

...you have constant looped professional on-hold marketing!

If the unit is brought in conjunction with one of our Music On Hold productions then it will arrive with your audio pre-loaded on the SD (Secure Digital) card. We normally produce your message into a full 10 minute recording, to reduce the chance of your caller hearing the 'loop' point at the end. This recording will use about 11% of the memory card's capacity - in total the card can hold roughly 90 minutes of audio. You can use the unit's built-in speaker to preview the audio and select playback volume. The audio will then run and run. You may well find a £14 MP3 player from Argos, however it will require a battery to run from, whereas the DP401 runs purely from the mains supply (it will even remember which track was playing and resume playback in the case of a powercut).

Future updates (charged on just a per-prompt basis) can be dealt with in a number of ways. You can either purchase an inexpensive 'card reader' device (for example click here) so you can load audio we've emailed onto the card at your premises, or we provide you with an additional memory card pre-loaded with your new audio, then you'll have a spare card which you can send back to us for your third update etc.
